As construction progressed, we began the process of selling new
memberships. West Chester was excited for the new business to grow - right
in the heart of the boro.
A long and successful operation the West Chester Laundry closed it's doors in
the last bit of the 20th century after 70 years in operation. The building fell into
disrepair and was a shell in 1997 when Donna Markley and her partner Joe
Messner saw the potential in redeveloping the site into a Health and Fitness
facility. The idea for Mitch's Market Street Gym was born, and construction
began in the summer of 1998.
Careful planning, a dedicated core management team, and fantastic cleanup and
construction helped to revitalize a grafitti painted trash strewn, abandoned property into
one of the most unique and successful fitness operations in America.
From the original restored hardwood flooring to the steel I-beams, the secret fumigation
chamber, to the fur vault, Mitch's Market Street Gym has kept it's 19th century factory feel.
Keeping the 23 foot high ceilings and updating the 10,000 square feet of windows, Mitch's
Gym has replaced a tired old building into an expansive modern health and fitness facility.
Here the culture of fitness, health, and exercise meets the needs of our clients with a
dedication to providing the best service, in the most unique setting.
